Master And Commander

Q1. There are various different ways that the characters and in events in this film fit the action adventure genre bcause they are pirates.  They're having a fight on ships and that's when it gets serious as they fire cannons and things into each other and that's really when the clip ends.  This fits into the action adventure genre because they are on the sea and they are probably going to have an adventure.  Plus in action adventure films there is occasionally fight scenes.

Q2.  Many different movie making techniques are used to make the effects in this film.

Sound Track:  The sound track contain sounds like explosions, gun fire and shouting.  This fits because the genre because there are fights in other films in this genre with those sounds.

Editing:  The editing is fast paced in this scene and it includes a lot of quick cuts.  This is because its a battle scene and it has to be fast paced other wise there's no tension and it would be a terrible scene.

Misé On Scene:  This is a period film which means that they are in costumes from a certain period of time.  The props in the film are some ships, cannons, cannon balls, guns are the props in the film.

Q3.The captain is represented as an aged man who has been in many sea battles the other sailors are stereotypical for the time as they are shouting and stuff.  The characters are based from the sailors of the 1700s and 1800s who had battles and shouted at each other to carry messages.

Hurt Locker Questions

Q1. The characters involved in the movie fit the action adventure genre because all of the characters have army uniform on which makes them look like they are meant to be in the film.  They also have guns which means that the content in the film would be violent for other genres there is also a terrorist in the film as the film is set during modern warfare.

The main character is called William James is forced into a tense situation because there is a terrorist with bombs strapped to him and he has to help him or let him explode.

Q2. Various different movie making aspects are used to create effects throughout the film to create effects for tension and some of the camera angles are shaky to show that something is happening in the film.  for example when the explosion goes off.  The costumes are based off of the US Army and they look very much like them this is because Hurt Locker is a film based around the US Army in a Middle Eastern Country because of the current situation there.

Misé en scene

The costumes are all army uniforms because they are in the army and the only one not wearing one is the terrorist who is wearing a suit and bomb vest.  This is because they are in a war film.

Q3. They are represented as army men in the film because it is an army film that is set in the middle east to make it blend in with modern warfare.  And the terrorist is represented as a middle eastern man who happens to have a massive bomb strapped to his chest to show detail and stuff.

Question 2

In the film Edge Of Tomorrow there are various different aspects that create effects in the film.  The film is set in the future and they fight aliens.

Sound Track

The sound track is very loud this is used to create tension in the scene where they are on the beach.  There is also very loud noises so it makes you feel like your on a battle field and not watching it through a computer screen.  They also make it have the atmosphere of war to create the atmosphere of war.

Camera  Angles

At the start of the clip there is an establishing shot where the war ships fly over the cliffs towards the beach to show people what's happening.  Later on there is a war ship bit and there is many over the shoulder shots.  When  they are on the beach they use many different shots like the hand held camera shot and the first person shot to give the audience a sense of them being there.

Editing

In the editing they use many different cuts to create humour or flashbacks or even tension in the film as the audience may want tension humour or flashback bits.

Mise En Scene

The mise en scene is that they have futuristic costumes on so that you know its set in the future.  They have huge army's of battleships to show that they have a powerful army against the aliens they also have big futuristic guns to again give the sense to the audience that the film is set in the future.

4. (b) Discuss in detail how one programme (Bad Education) offers audience pleasures. Give examples from the programme. [15 marks]

Bad Education is a sitcom that is on BBC Three.  It has stereotypes in and stuff.  There is a character known as Alfie Wickers who is the lovable loser as he is the needy teacher and he acts like a child who is bullied by the pupil Frank Grayson.

In the comedy there is verbal comedy which is racist which makes it better for BBC because they have not got to have sponsors for the programme as it is a channel with no adverts which means they can do what they want really.

The programme doesn't appeal to a younger audience because it is on after the watershed so it will only appeal to an audience at the same age as the demographic for BBC 3 which is 16 to 34 years of age.
